What Defines a Sports Car

You will get a dozen different answers if you ask a dozen different people to define a sports car. So the term “sports car” is without meaning with no standardized definition available within the industry.
At first, the difference between a regular production car and a sports car was easy. If just anyone can buy it, it was not a sports car. Sports cars were fro the rich, automobile obsessed and were their toys. Road races, rallies and other competitions is where they were primarily represented. Testing their newest technological advances and inventive ideas, manufacturers and designers went head to head.
There was no room an any passenger as these cars were built for a single driver, and the thought of a back seat made little sense. They were faster than a regular car and tended to be very small. Today, some will consider a car a sports car only if it is built for only two and designed for racing.  Sports cars slowly grew and the technologies pioneered by sports cars found their way into vehicles as time passed.
